Recipe
Honey Pretzel
Sweet, salty, done.
Why this is addictive
Honey + salt + crunch is the most reliable snack loop there is — that's why the pretzel aisle works. This version adds dark chocolate and dried blueberries to give it somewhere to land beyond just more-ish.
Ingredients
For ~7 oz / 200g — scale up proportionally for larger batches.
- 1 cup mini pretzels or pretzel nuggets — smaller pieces distribute better
- ¾ cup honey roasted peanuts store-bought; pick one you'd eat straight from the bag
- ⅓ cup dark chocolate chips 60%+ — chips are fine here, no need to chop
- ¼ cup dried blueberries Trader Joe's has a reliable version; dried cranberry works too
Method
- 01
Combine all four ingredients in a bowl. Toss gently.
- 02
Taste and adjust — if it needs salt, add a pinch of flaky salt; if it needs more sweet, add a few more peanuts.
- 03
Store in an airtight bag. Best within 3 days — pretzels absorb moisture from the other ingredients and lose crunch over time.
Note Same shelf life caveat as Cheddar Caramel. Think small bags, fast turnover.
What to watch for
Common failure points and how to read the batch.
- Honey roasted peanut brand matters. Some are very sweet, others balanced. Get one you'd eat plain.
- Dried blueberries vary a lot in quality. If they're too sweet, dried cranberry gives better tartness.
- Simple enough that ingredient quality carries more weight than usual. Don't use cheap chocolate.
Variations to try
- Add ¼ cup yogurt-covered raisins for a creamy element.
- Swap blueberries for tart dried cherries for more intensity.
- A pinch of cinnamon ties it together without adding much effort.
